Output 3: Employment-related services and functions
Internet and intranet
The Commission continues to use its internet site as a means of distributing advice to agencies in a timely fashion. The external website was completely reorganised and revamped with new graphics and a new site navigation structure and improved search facility. This has been well received by agencies and the number of enquiries to the website manager has dropped dramatically.
The Commissions intranet site has been set up as a corporate portal run by a database system. It is used to share all significant documents and information across the Commission. The portal provides a range of valuable tools that can be utilised to enhance information sharing and security.
For example, a community page has been set up to enable confidential staffing information sharing and access to databases for officers engaged in the merit protection function. An automatic booking system for the Commissions internal Health Week activities was also run through the portal and short video clips of major events have been displayed from time to time.
Library
The Library continues to play an important role in supporting policy development and research
activities within the Commission. Details of acquisitions are now added to the National
Bibliographical Database so that libraries around Australia can borrow from our collection
on behalf of their patrons. The fortnightly bulletin, Library News,
continues to be distributed throughout Australia and now overseas, and identifies current
reports, papers, books, articles and internet sites on topics such as public administration,
leadership, management and HR
.
