Dear Prime Minister

In accordance with sections 44 and 63 of the Public Service Act 1999, I am pleased to present my annual report for the financial year ending 30 June 2009. This report includes the annual report of the Merit Protection Commissioner, as required by section 51 of the Public Service Act.

The Requirements for annual reports, approved by the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit under subsections 63(2) and 70(2) of the Public Service Act, require that a copy of these reports be laid before each House of Parliament on or before 31 October in the year in which the report is given. This report has been prepared in accordance with the requirements approved on 17 June 2009.

I would like to express my appreciation for the support, dedication and hard work of all the staff of the Commission during 2008–09. I would also like to thank all our clients and stakeholders across the Australian Public Service for supporting the Commission in its role and for providing valuable feedback on our services, advice and programmes.
