Module navigation

Within a module, two navigation areas exist. A top menu provide access to functions as described by each text link.

A side Topics menu will also display as shown below.

Clicking on each Topic heading listed will take you to that topic in the module.

To move within the module, use the back and next button buttons.

To exit from a module, select the close button button from the top menu.

Online forms - Information quests

Online forms can be found within the induction modules. These forms do not store data and are used only for self assessment and reflection. You can however print forms for an external copy.

Note: Forms do not carry data over multiple pages. Once you leave information in the form and visit another page, the information will not be kept.

 

Using this programme

The APS Induction e-learning programme has been developed using open, standard technologies in an attempt to provide interoperability across varied computer/IT environments.

The following sections outline the various functions and requirements of the programme.

Note : Flash based interactive elements have been used throughout the programme. However, if you do not have Flash, an alternative text version of the interaction will automatically display.

Also, an option exists on the start page of each module to select whether you which to view a version of the module containing Flash or a HTML (plain text) equivalent.

In-built diagnostics tool

When you launch the programme, a built in diagnostics tool will automatically test your computer to see if you need to change any settings to ensure optimal viewing of the programme. The following settings will be tested:

If your computer’s settings do not meet the required settings, a new window will display with instructions on how to adjust your computer’s settings. If your computer’s settings do meet these required settings, no warning window will display.

Changing your screen resolution

The optimal screen resolution for viewing the programme is 1024 x 768 or above. The content can be viewed at lower resolutions (e.g. 800 x 600) however you may need to use scroll bars to see all of the content. The following steps outline how to change your screen resolution.

  1. From your Windows Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel
  2. Double click on the Display icon
  3. The Display Properties dialogue box will display. Select the Settings tab
  4. Drag the Screen Resolution slider to a setting at least 1024 x 768 or above
  5. Click on Apply then click on OK

Pop-up Windows

When opening the individual modules of the programme your computer may show warning messages regarding 'pop-up' windows. This is a security feature of your computer that will mean you need to enable to the use of 'pop-ups' in order to view the modules. Depending on your computer setting, you may be prompted with one of the following warning messages:

Warning 1

To enable pop-up windows, click on the warning message. A context menu will display.

Click on Temporarily Allow Pop-ups.

Follow this procedure each time this warning displays.

Warning 2

To enable pop-up windows, click on the warning message. A context menu will display.

Click on Allow Blocked Content... The Security Warning dialogue box will display.

Click on OK

Please note that the requirement to enable pop-ups may not be required if you are viewing the programme from your intranet or Learning Management System.
