Operating efficiently and at a consistently high standard

Snapshot of activities in 2011:

  • Two pilot capability reviews have been conducted to test the methodology, with a further pilot underway.  More information on the capability reviews program is available at www.apsc.gov.au/capabilityreview/.
  • A draft of the Shared Outcomes Framework was considered by the Secretaries Board in August 2011.  Further refinement was undertaken in September–October 2011 and the Framework will be considered by Government shortly.
  • The major elements of red tape reduction are being taken forward as part of wider the Better Government agenda. Achievements include the release of the Australian Government Model Chief Executive Instructions, templates and the updated Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines.
  • A review of the Efficiency Dividend has been completed and new portfolio flexibility arrangements to reallocate the impacts have been implemented.
  • Newly established small agencies are required to obtain their corporate services from their parent agency or another existing shared service provider within the government unless there are demonstrable net benefits of doing otherwise.
  • Governance arrangements for Australian Government Bodies are being considered in the context of the broader Commonwealth Financial Accountability Review.
