Frequently asked questions
What is a promotion?
A promotion, for an ongoing Australian Public Service (APS) employee, means the assignment to the employee of duties at a higher classification than the employee's current classification, whether or not the employee moves to another agency.
Not all moves to higher classifications are promotions. For example, although they can involve moves to higher classifications, the following actions are not promotions:
- a move to a higher classification within a broadband;
- a temporary assignment of duties at a higher classification.
Also, a decision to engage an APS employee cannot be a promotion.
