Andrea Kelly

Andrea KellyI was born and raised in Alice Springs, I am the second youngest of nine children, with family extending across the Northern Territory and interstate. I moved to Darwin seven years ago with my husband.

I have enjoyed 17 diverse years in the APS, working across a variety of portfolios, including the Central Land Council, Aboriginal Hostels Limited, Centrelink, the Department of Families, Housing Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) and more recently in the newly created Department of Education, Employment and Work Place Relations (DEEWR).

I started my career as an ASO2 in 1991, and through sheer determination and hard work was promoted to an APS5 in 1994, then in 1997 I was promoted to an Executive Level 1.  I moved to Darwin in 2001 as the Manager of the Casuarina Centrelink Customer Service Centre.  I moved to FACSIA in 2002 and was promoted to an EL2 in 2004 heading up the Children, Families and Communities Section.  In this role I was responsible for managing a broad range of mainstream and Indigenous specific programs and policy initiatives. I managed a section of 20 staff including staff located in the Alice Springs ICC.  I had a short stint with the FaHCSIA Indigenous Leadership Delivery Group late last year, before moving back to the State Office in preparation for my move to DEEWR as the Director of Early Childhood and Child Care.

I am currently 'trying very hard' to complete my Batchelor of Business through Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.
