Karen Ahern

I am a proud Kurnai woman.  My family are from Gippsland in Victoria.  I work at the Australian Tax Office located in Moonee Ponds, Victoria which is about fifteen minutes from home.  I have two boys 11 and 9 years who are into everything sporting and my current working conditions and location at the Tax office allow me to enjoy time with my boys at this special age.

The study leave conditions in the APS have provided me with opportunity to undertake and be successful in obtaining an Advance Diploma of Business Management and Graduate Certificate of Management.  I have plans to continue to study over the next two years which will be in line with my career development plan.

My Agency and Directors are supportive of Indigenous career development and have and will continue to support my attendance and participations at Indigenous specific events including committees, meetings etc.

I have been involved with the Melbourne IAPSEN for about 3 years and have enjoyed immensely the experience and friends that I have made during that time.  I encourage all APS Indigenous employees to join your state’s IAPSEN and become involve in contributing to Indigenous employment, retention and development of invaluable networks.
