Any travel and accommodation associated
with attending a workshop will need to
be covered by the participant’s agency
During 2008 over 490 Indigenous employees from a range of agencies have registered on our programmes to develop their career management, communication and job application skills. They were part of Indigenous Career Trek.
The Trek brought people together in capital cities such as Canberra and Perth, more remote places like Dubbo and Thursday Island – and many places in between. Through 32 free career development workshops Indigenous employees exchanged their knowledge and experience, built networks and developed strategies to achieve their career goals.
Since the initial workshops, some participants have stayed in touch to share their success stories and the overall feedback people gave, during and after the workshops, was really positive. Here’s what some of them had to say:
‘I was really focused for interviews the week after the workshop much more relaxed and confident. I have offers from all 3 employers who I met with that week!’ – APS 5-6
‘Great workshop! Really beneficial and relevant’ – APS 1-4
‘Very valuable/knowledge experience’ – APS 5-6
‘Great workshop, very rewarding and informative. Thank you.’ APS 1-4
Many people helped us make the Trek a success, from the participants who freely gave of their knowledge and experience to agency staff who helped co-ordinate participation. We want to extend our thanks to all involved.
Indigenous Career Trek is only one of the initiatives under the APS Employment and Capability Strategy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. To find out more about what we are doing under the Strategy go to our information page.
