Policy formulation and advice – introduction
The Public Service Act 1999 requires APS employees to be responsive to government in providing frank, honest, comprehensive, accurate and timely advice in implementing government policies. Policy formulation and advice: introduction provides knowledge and skills to uphold this key APS Value. This program is an introduction to the skills required in developing policy including effective research, analytical thinking and policy management.

Participant benefits
- Have a contemporary understanding of policy, particularly how policy is formulated and implemented in an age of ‘wicked’ problems
- Appreciate the important of thinking of policy in non linear ways where strategy, evidence and delivery are important along with an ‘outcomes’ focus required of government policy
- Undertake sn integrated approach to policy using all the skills required in whole-of-government work
- Familiarise yourself with an range of influences on policy formulation
- Recognise and apply essential elements of sound policy advice and the skills required to management policy
- Learn skills and knowledge and develop an ability to contribute effectively to policy work in your agency
