Australian Public Service Commission

Management Advisory Committee

The Management Advisory Committee (MAC) is a forum of Secretaries and Agency Heads established under the Public Service Act 1999 to advise the Australian Government on matters relating to the management of the Australian Public Service (APS). In addressing its broad advisory function the Committee considers a number of management issues where analysis, discussion, and the identification of better practice approaches would inform and promote improvements in public administration.

Empowering change: Fostering innovation in the Australian Public Service

Innovation is at the heart of good public administration. A high-performing public service is relentless in its commitment to continuous improvement. It never assumes that the current policies, processes and services are the best or only solution.

This report is part of a broader agenda for rejuvenating the APS. The MAC Executive believes strongly that embedding a culture of innovation within the APS is a vital component of that rejuvenation. This dedicated review of innovation will help to create a solid foundation for tackling not only the challenges of today, but those that are yet to arise.
