The State of the Service Report 2002—03 advised that employee survey responses were re-weighted by classification level, location, agency size, agency and sex–see ‘Weighting and estimation’ at page 210. In fact most responses were weighted by four of these demographics, not by sex (except for cross-tabulations by large agency). Because the proportion of respondents by sex (49% for women and 51% for men) was similar to the underlying population (53% for women and 47% for men), re-weighting by sex would have had (or had) no effect on almost all of the estimates in the report.
