State of the Service Roadshow

The State of the Service Roadshow is an annual APS event series that:

  • explores findings from the annual State of the Service Report and APS Employee Census
  • showcases how the APS is working across Australia
  • provides an opportunity for APS staff to engage directly with senior leaders.

2025 State of the Service Roadshow

This year’s State of the Service Roadshow included a virtual event for all APS staff around Australia and in-person events for staff in Melbourne and Hobart.

A recording of the virtual event is available below.

Each event focused on topics in the 2023–24 State of the Service Report.

Attendees heard from Assistant Minister for the Public Service, the Hon Patrick Gorman MP, APS Commissioner, Dr Gordon de Brouwer and other senior leaders.

They also had an opportunity to ask questions in the audience Q&A sessions. 

Virtual APS-wide event

Overview:

All APS staff around Australia were invited to the 2025 Virtual APS-wide State of the Service Roadshow.

This event was all about Working in the APS.

Attendees heard from:

  • Mr John Reid PSM, Deputy Secretary Governance, Department of Defence (Master of Ceremonies)
  • Dr Sandra Cuthbert, Chief Executive Officer, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (panelist)
  • Ms Josephine Secis, Assistant Director-General, National Archives of Australia (panelist)
  • Dr Gordon de Brouwer, Australian Public Service Commissioner (panelist).

Melbourne in-person event

This event was all about APS Leadership and Capability.

  • Ms Eleanor Williams, Managing Director, Australian Centre for Evaluation (panelist)
  • Dr Gordon de Brouwer, Australian Public Service Commissioner (panelist).

Hobart in-person event
