With more than a third of APS Reform initiatives now complete and progress against all outcomes, the public service is making headway towards its goal of being known for its integrity, respected for its thoughtful care of public resources and trusted for its commitment to citizens.
Public servants have an important role in supporting the Australian community, building public trust and ensuring the APS is an effective and reliable partner of the Australian people and businesses.
Find out how APS Reform is strengthening the public service to respond to the changing needs of Australians and expectations of government in the 2024 APS Reform Annual Progress Report.
Departments and agencies are leading change to embed reform initiatives across the service.
Of these, 22 are now complete. Twenty initiatives are in the process of being delivered, while 8 are in the planning stage and 8 are in design.
Ongoing effort is required to create lasting change in the diverse APS workforce, with more than 185,000 staff working across 101 agencies.
The 2024 progress report highlights key areas for future focus, building on progress made over the past 2 years to support a culture of continuous improvement for an APS that:
- embodies integrity in everything it does
- puts people and business at the centre of policy and services
- is a model employer
- has the capability to do its job well.
