The Parliamentary Service Commissioner is seeking expressions of interest from outstanding senior executives for the role of Secretary of the Department of Parliamentary Services.
Responsible for Australia’s iconic Parliament House, the Secretary leads more than 1200 staff who enable the work of Australia’s parliament by providing high quality services to parliamentarians and others working in the building, along with one million visitors each year.
As head of the Department, the Secretary is the Principal Adviser to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Department matters and its Accountable Authority under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.
This is a rewarding and challenging opportunity for a senior executive with strong delivery expertise and extensive experience in complex operational environments. Suitable candidates will be exemplary leaders, with outstanding stakeholder engagement capability and the capacity to partner across agencies to achieve outcomes. They will possess strong people and financial management skills as well as integrity, judgement, resilience and political acumen.
Experience working in a parliamentary service or with the Parliament is desirable but not essential. Candidates with prior experience leading large scale operations or corporate services will be highly regarded.

Eligibility
To be eligible, candidates must:
- be an Australian citizen;
- be able to commence work in March 2025 or within a reasonable period.
- be required to successfully attain and maintain a security clearance vetting process at Negative Vetting Level 2 at a minimum.
