We’re creating new APS training and employment opportunities in data and digital roles, and new opportunities for APS careers, in regional Australia. This is part of the Government’s $51.4m investment in the 2022-23 Budget.
The APSC is committed to building data and digital skills to support the nation’s prosperity and growth, and enhancing APS employment opportunities in our regions.
Under the Supporting Regionalisation Package, we are establishing 4 APS Academy Campuses alongside universities in regional areas and outside of Canberra.
The Government in investing $18.6 million over three years to make sure that the APS has the capability it needs to serve the Australian people.
Students and graduates will be able to undertake paid data and digital apprenticeships, traineeships, internships and graduate placements with the Australian Public Service – using their skills to make a difference for Australia and the communities we serve.
This complements the Government’s investment of $15.2 million over 7 years to establish up to 4 APS Hubs in regional Australia. These multi-agency Hubs will enhance employment opportunities in the regions, and will support regional economic growth.
COVID-19, fires and floods have reinforced that the APS needs frontline workers who understand and can respond to the needs of Australians experiencing trauma and hardship. The Budget ensures that the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Unit, operating from within the APSC, continues. This important work will enable the APSC to continue to build the mental health and suicide prevention capability of APS staff.
The APSC is also looking beyond Australia to strengthen partnerships with our international partners. We will continue building relationships and sharing public sector knowledge with India’s public service. This will provide stronger, more sustainable economic growth and more secure and diversified supply chains to both countries with an allocation of $6.1m over 4 years.
