To help explain the impact of these benefits, we’ve created case studies below which you can apply to your own circumstance.

Case study 1 |
Jenny is an APS employee and a carer for her child with disability. |
Jenny needs to attend a lot of medical appointments and takespersonal/carers leave to attend these appointments. |
If Jenny’s new enterprise agreement comes into effect, she can use a medical certificate to cover 12 months of carer’s duties. This will help reduce the admin burden and the cost of doctor visits each time she takes personal/carers leave to support her child. |
Case study 2 |
Ben has been putting off going to the dentist, he also needs to gethis eyes checked – everything is starting to get blurry. |
Ben can’t find the time to go to these preventative healthappointments between work and family commitments. |
If Ben’s new enterprise agreement comes into effect, Ben canprioritise his health a little more and take personal leave to go to theseappointments. |
Case study 3 |
Leah works for the Department of Defence and currently gets 15 dayspersonal/carers leave per year. |
While this is much higher than what the National Employment Standardsprovides, she’d prefer some more. Leah has 3 kids in childcare and it’s hardon her personal/carers leave balance. |
If the Department of Defence’s new enterprise agreement comes intoeffect, Leah will get 3 more days personal/carers leave per year. |
Case study 4 |
Jesse has been working in state government and decides he’d like toexperience working in the APS. |
He’s worried he’ll lose his leave balance, particularly his sickleave balance, but applies to an APS agency anyway. |
If the new enterprise agreements come into effect, the APS agency he applies for can now choose to recognise his personal/carers leave balance. |
