The Data Professional Technical Forum (DPTF) is a series of virtual workshops where Australian Public Service (APS) agencies share their experience in the technical aspects of working with data. More than 900 members of the APS have registered to join DPTF events in recent months.
The second DPTF workshop of 2022 was held in April and focussed on Computer Vision. Data professionals from the Department of Home Affairs, Geoscience Australia and the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment shared their experiences in applying computer vision to projects including:
- document analysis and validation,
- the creation of land cover products from satellite imagery, and
- the use of deep learning for image recognition tasks in environmental modelling.
If you missed this session, or any of the previous workshops, the recordings can be viewed on the APS Data Professional Stream video library.
In June, APS representatives in the DPTF Planning Group met to discuss a draft workshop plan for 2022/23. The final schedule is still being finalised, but 2022/23 workshop topics are likely to include:
- APS Data Collaborations with Academia
- Career Development for Data Professionals
- Integrated Data Assets
- Location and Geospatial Data Analysis
- Transitioning to Cloud Technologies
Details of upcoming workshops will be circulated via the DPTF mailing list and to Data Profession members and APS agency contacts. If your agency would like to be involved in proposing workshop topics, would be willing to share its data expertise with other agencies, or if you have any further enquiries about the DPTF, please email kristen.stone@abs.gov.au or ying.yang@ato.gov.au.
