APS-wide Diversity & Inclusion data
The APSC collects data on diversity & inclusion (D&I) across the APS. Over the coming months, the APSC’s Inclusion Group will be collecting a range of D&I data through a number of different survey tools.
Agency Survey (June-Aug)
The Agency Survey is an important annual activity which collects data from across the APS on a range of different topics, including D&I. These findings contribute to the annual State of the Service Report, which is tabled annually in parliament. Due to the large size of the survey, we are limited to the number and types of questions we can include.
We have three data collection tools, to better understand the programs and initiatives underway across the APS to influence D&I.
APS D&I Stocktake (July)
The APS D&I Stocktake is an annual snapshot of agency programs or initiatives that support the attraction, recruitment and retention of people with Disability, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is designed to enable agencies to answer a yes/no questions (i.e. ‘does your agency have an employee network?’) against a number of D&I programs or initiatives that are common across the APS. The analysed data is presented to the COO Committee and Secretaries Board, highlighting the breadth of initiatives across the APS, or opportunities for cross-collaboration.
The APS D&I Stocktake also provides an opportunity to identify agencies which may require support to meet the objectives of the Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Strategy 2020-2024 and the Australian Public Service Disability Employment Strategy 2020-2025.
The Stocktake closed in July 2022, with 63 agencies providing a completed response. The Insights and Performance team will now complete the analysis of the results, which will be presented to the APS Senior Leaders over the coming weeks as meetings come online. Many thanks to those agencies that submitted your response.
Stakeholder Survey
The Stakeholder survey is designed to better understand where the APSC is/or is not effectively supporting agencies to strengthen D&I, and where there is opportunity for improvement. This is scheduled for early 2022-23. Although it is not compulsory, it is an opportunity to influence APSC work programs for the next financial year.
