While everyone is worried about the tight labour market, there is an opportunity to develop competitive initiatives, uplift capability, and target diverse applicant groups.
The new Australian Government Apprenticeship Program (AGAP) offers the opportunity for participants to launch their career with the Australian Public Service (APS) and complete a Diploma of Government simultaneously. From individuals starting their career, to those looking to re-enter the workforce or wanting a career change, AGAP supports participants at any life stage to expand their personal and professional capabilities while gaining a formal qualification.
AGAP is a whole-of-government, entry level development program delivered over 12-months. Throughout the duration of AGAP, participants will be provided with development opportunities to enhance their capability and succeed in their APS career. Coordinated by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), applicants will be considered for apprenticeship roles across the APS.
In addition to role specific training, participants will also complete a Diploma of Government, a formal and nationally recognised qualification. This will further develop the skills and capabilities of participants and contribute to a higher performing APS.
The Diploma is earned through facilitated learning, delivered virtually and face-to-face and supports participants to work towards an APS 4 level. Mentors, coaches, and peers will be available to assist within the program and learning opportunities have flexible arrangements to help balance work, study, and life.
The program allows for a wide range of work experiences such as answering enquiries from the public, records management, IT, data, human resources management, communications, project management, policy, procurement, and other general administrative, operational or systems support.
It aims to attract everyday Australians who are passionate about working for the community, eager to take on new challenges and gain a recognised qualification in a supported program.
Developing new and innovative recruitment initiatives provides access to a broad and diverse talent pool and the opportunity to build a skilled and capable workforce.
