APS Statistical Bulletin 2016-17
The APS Statistical Bulletin for 2016-17 was released on Tuesday 26th September by the Australian Public Service Commissioner.
The Statistical Bulletin is a bi-annual statistical overview of the APS workforce employed under the Public Service Act 1999. This edition is based on snapshot data from 30 June 2017.
The Statistical Bulletin is part of the Australian Public Service Commission’s State of the Service series. It has been produced in one form or another since the Australian Public Service was established in 1901.
This year’s edition will present information in a more modern format focused on recent policy priorities such as the size and structure of the APS, gender equity and geographic distribution of the APS.
The Statistical Bulletin for 2016-17 shows that the structure of APS employment is continuing to change.
- In 2016-17 the APS recorded the lowest employment levels since 2006 with 152,095 APS employees.
- Over the last decade the proportion of APS employees aged 50 or over has increased from 25% to 32%.
- The representation of women in the SES ranks has increased from 36% to 43% since 2008.
