Human resource (HR) professionals sit on a data gold mine. Traditionally, data was considered the antithesis of HR; these days it’s used in almost every aspect of recruitment, retention, development, innovation, and monitoring of workforce productivity. Yet many HR staff are still newcomers to the data world. That’s why the APS HR Professional Stream launched the Using data in HR module within their HR Foundational Learning Series. Relevant training for all data beginners Suitable for anyone (not just those in HR) wanting to learn the basics of how to manipulate and interpret data, the training comprises an eLearning course along with bite-sized content like articles and videos. As a learner, you’ll discover how data tells stories – such as how workforces contribute to and impacts business objectives and strategic outcomes. While exploring data analytics, you’ll realise you don’t need to be a Data Analyst to uncover meaningful, useful and actionable insights. You’ll also receive an overview on how to best communicate data insights to stakeholders. It’s a great step towards learning how to deliver evidence-based advice and informed decision-making. Course development and registration Tailored to the APS context, the course has been developed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) with the support of the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC), Department of Education Skills and Employment (DESE), and Services Australia. We’ve made it available on APS Academy, so check it out.
