In partnership with The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and Australian Public Service Commission (APSC), pro-integrity culture resources have been made available to raise awareness of integrity and accountability in the APS.
The ‘One Habit at a Time’ program contains individual reflection, and team-based discussion activities focussing on 5 habits that align to ATO cultural traits. These habits drive positive culture changes in how we collaborate as one APS through personal integrity and accountability. By focusing on changing everyday habits, we can gradually integrate new ways of thinking into our routine, and culture.
The ‘Own It’ Habit: Empowering Leaders
The ‘Own It’ habit highlights the important role leaders play in role modelling the right behaviours. Leaders create an environment where people feel empowered and trusted to own their actions, outcomes, mistakes, and behaviours. The suite consists of leader led conversation starters, useful resources, and fun reflection and peer activities designed to be led by leaders to encourage team-based conversations.
As HR professionals you can actively support this by:
- Facilitating Conversations: Initiate discussions within teams about the ‘Own It’ resources. Encourage open dialogue on taking ownership and accountability.
- Sharing Resources: Circulate the ‘Own It’ resources to leaders and encourage them to share with team members. Foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels part of the integrity-building process.
- Professional Development: Encourage leaders to dedicate time in regular team meetings, activities vary between 10 minutes to 60 minutes.
Remember small actions add up over time, and cultural change is likely to occur when habits are changed at an individual, team, and organisational level. HR professionals play a crucial role in fostering a pro-integrity culture across the APS. Encourage your networks to make us of the ATO ‘Own It’ resources.
