Cross-agency networks play an important role in developing ourselves and our people. The HR profession has a growing range of networks, communities of practice (CoP), forums, and hubs for you to participate in.
Collaborating across agencies provides peer support, encourages sharing best practice, and supports professional learning. The APS Recruitment CoP has become the one of the largest CoPs and is a great example of skill and knowledge sharing with quarterly forums hosted by different agencies. Participants benefit from updates, guest speakers, and resources to address common challenges.
ATO Assistant Commissioner HR Operations, Susan Moriarty, explains
“CoPs are particularly important for professional communities as they can support learning, accelerate professional development, enable knowledge sharing and networking, and build better practices.
“This all leads to better outcomes of our profession, those within it, and for those we provide services.“
As the needs of the APS evolve, new networks to support the profession are being introduced. The recently launched, Payroll CoP aims to grow the capability of the APS Payroll community. Susan outlines the following themes the Payroll CoP will focus on:
- People
- Process and Policy
- Technology and Automation
- Service Standards
- Audit and Assurance
For the full list of CoP, search Communities of Practice when you are signed in to your GovTeams account.
Agencies are also invited to participate in Diversity and Inclusion networks. View the list of available networks, CoPs, forums, and hubs and see how you can get involved.
The Small Agency Forum is another forum to connect with peers across the APS. The Forum was established to support the sharing of knowledge, resources, and experience for State and Federal agencies with 500 or less employees.
As HR Professionals, consider how you may promote internal and cross agency networks and communities through induction or onboarding packs for staff at all levels including SES.
Explore and join relevant CoP to grow your network, share your ideas, solve shared problems, and learn from each other.
