Recently, the Australian Government Leadership Network (AGLN) hosted a timely webinar with registered psychologist and leading researcher Dr Tessa Bailey on how to ‘Better utilise your State of the Service Wellbeing results’.
In it, Dr Bailey focuses on upskilling managers, emphasising psychosocial indicators for worker health and wellbeing and how these directly correlate with workplace culture and climate, and importantly, performance.
She provides suggestions for structures and tools to reduce psychosocial risk factors within our workplaces as well as strategies for ongoing, continuous improvements. The webinar delivers the architecture for us to embark on effective psychosocial risk management and how to design interventions to address weaknesses, while providing a framework for interpreting staff feedback and what to look for in group and individual results. Her own guides and worksheets are provided as examples of templates for use in any workplace.
Dr Bailey speaks to what is the responsibility of managers, and what is not, particularly in our response to events and factors external to the workplace which may be affecting our teams. Interestingly, she also presses the importance of leaders role modelling to their staff care for their own personal psychosocial health and wellbeing, and the ripple on effect this can have on a team.
The webinar is a helpful look at how managers can best serve their teams and utilise wellbeing and workplace feedback to implement effective and constructive changes.
Thank you to Dr Tessa Bailey for her insights.
If you are an HR or WHS professional in the APS and are looking to improve psychosocial safety for the workplace, Dr Tessa Bailey is also offering a free 30 min consultation to provide information and advice.
