The Government’s public sector Performance Bonus Guidance was released on 13 August 2021. The guidance completes the performance bonus review, which included an interim report on 25 March 2021.
The guidance applies to all Commonwealth entities and companies, including Government Business Enterprises, and provides a clear and consistent approach for the restrained use of performance bonuses.
This guidance sets out the Government’s clear expectation that bonus arrangements are to be used in limited circumstances for public benefit. Where entities and companies do pay bonuses, the guidance requires they be supported by appropriate governance arrangements, a published bonus policy, and regular review and disclosure.
A media release from the Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister and Cabinet is available on the Assistant Minister's website.
