Movement

An ongoing APS employee can be promoted on an ongoing basis within their current agency, or they can be promoted to another APS agency.

An APS employee can agree to move from one APS agency to another at their classification level, or a lower classification level.

An agency head may at any time determine the duties to be performed by an APS employee and the location at which those duties are to be performed.

The Parliamentary Service is a separate entity from the Australian Public Service (APS). It employs staff under the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 while the APS employs staff under the Public Service Act 1999.

State and territory government employees who wish to join the Australian Public Service (APS) are required to apply for vacancies in APS agencies.
