In August 2023 the First Nations Unit launched the Cultural Capability Hub (the Hub) on APSLearn to support staff in using and applying the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework (2015). This initiative was developed to enhance cultural capability and promote safe and inclusive workplaces.
The Hub was developed in partnership with the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) and the Department of Defence with collaboration with 12 external agencies and engagement with the Coalition of Peaks. The Hub provides a central repository of practical tools, examples and links to additional resources to help staff perform their duties in a culturally informed way through self-paced learning modules.
It also offers support for agencies to implement the Cultural Capability Framework in their operational environments. This includes assisting agencies in improving their workforce management processes, such as recruitment, performance management, learning and development, and workforce planning. These improvements will ensure that APS policies, programs, and services are responsive to the interests and needs of First Nations people.
